Joey Bosa, DE, L.A. Chargers
The turkey is in the oven. The potatoes are mashed. The yams have been garnished with marshmallows for some unknown reason. (Seriously, people. Stop that madness.) It’s time to sit back and get going with some football on the only Thursday that truly deserves it. The early game holds some interest, as the Vikings face off against the division rival Lions, but it’s the middle game that I’m really psyched up to see. It’s the Cowboys hosting the Chargers and I think it’s going to be fun if you like watching Dak Prescott run. Because he’s going to be running for his life.
The Chargers get after the quarterback like few teams in the NFL, with two players ranked in the top ten in sacks recorded thus far this season. As a team, the Chargers rank third, behind only Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. The LA defensive rush is led by second year defensive end Joey Bosa. Bosa’s ten-and-a-half sacks thus far this season rank him third in the league, plus he’s also forced three fumbles. He’s every bit the creator of chaos that the Chargers hoped for when they drafted him in the first round last year out of Ohio State. With the Cowboys offensive line dinged up, you can bet Bosa will bring the heat. He’s recorded a sack in all but two of the Chargers’ games this year, and at least one in each of the last six. If the Cowboys choose to double team him, they risk getting blitzed by OLB Melvin Ingram, who ranks seventh in the league with eight-and-a-half sacks.
The Cowboys will hope that Tyron Smith is back from the groin strain that has sidelined him for the past two weeks, both Cowboy blowout losses that resulted in twelve sacks. If he’s not able to go, the Chargers are going to feast on Prescott early and often. Should be fun to watch. Unless you’re a Cowboys fan…
