The captain, Big Zee, has re-signed with the Boston Bruins and will remain with the club through the 2018-19 season. Zee has signed a one year contract and will earn $5 million with an additional $1.75 million in incentives.

Chara is in his 20th NHL season and his 12th with the Boston Bruins. The big man has appeared in 68 games so far this season, recording 7 goals and 16 assists for 23 points. He also has a +26 rating while averaging 23 minutes of ice time per game. Chara is tied for ninth in the NHL in plus/minus this season.

In eight of his eleven seasons, Chara has led the Bruins to the post season, winning the cup back in 2011. Chara ranks third in Bruins points by a defenseman, sitting only behind the legendary Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr.

Chara is the second oldest player in the NHL at 41 years old. Zee has worn the “C” on his chest since his first season with Boston back in 2006-07. The captain was awarded the Norris Trophy back in 2008-09 for his stellar season. In 2010-11, he was awarded the Mark Messier Leadership Award for his leadership on and off the ice. He has been named to the NHL’s First All Star Team three times, 2003-04, 2008-09, 2013-14), and the NHL’s Second All Star Team four times (2005-06, 2007-08, 2010-11, 2011-12).

Chara has also been selected to the All Star Game five times (2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12). He has recorded the NHL’s hardest shot in history while at the All Star Game. He has also been awarded the Golden Puck as Slovakia’s hockey player of the year.

Chara has had a tremendous career in the NHL and i’m glad he will be remaining with the Boston Bruins for at least one more season. He has long been one of the NHL’s best defenseman and will continue to be throughout the rest of his career.
