One-Year Anniversary

The trend dominating Twitter yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the Isaiah Thomas/Kyrie Irving trade. This was THE move of the off-season. To recap, the Cavs received Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and two draft picks while the Celtics obtained Kyrie Irving.

With the Celtics this 2017-2018 regular season, Kyrie had 60 games played with 60 starts, and an average of about 32 minutes per game. He shot 9 for 18 and about 3 for 7 on 3 pointers, had a field goal percentage  of .49%, and an average of 22 points per game. Kyrie had a soul-crushing injury and missed a lot of Celtics basketball at the end of the season.

Isaiah Thomas played 15 games with the Cavs this season before heading to the Lakers in February for 17 more games (1 start). Just last month he agreed to a one year deal with the Denver Nuggets. The Cavs turned their end of the deal into Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., Rodney Hood, Ante Zizic, and Colin Sexton. Oh yeah, then LeBron went to the Lakers. HA!

There were a lot of diverse initial reactions once the trade was released to the public. A lot of people felt as if the Cavs “won” the trade, and others thought the Celtics needed Kyrie badly. I remember being in pure shock, as I was convinced Al Horford would bring his buddies over to Boston and I didn’t predict Kyrie coming at all.
