Why Jimmy Butler Is Making Me Mad

Jimmy Butler, get out of here.

The 29 year-old small forward/shooting guard wants out of Minnesota, despite recently demanding that they add $155 and four years to his contract, which didn’t work out for him. That’s fine, I understand wanting a change of scenery. Jimmy released a list of three preferred destinations. At first, fans were left to speculate. I predicted that he’d want to come to the East to a winning team, since the Timberwolves have no chance in the West against stacked teams. I thought Jimmy would want to go to the Celtics, Rockets, or 76ers. However, the Celtics really wouldn’t be a good fit, plus I like our line up now, and I don’t want to get rid of anyone (especially trade pieces like Terry Rozier III). The Rockets already have enough small forward and guard stars, and I don’t really like them or want to see them become a stacked team (I don’t like James Harden). I really thought the 76ers would be a viable option here. Adding Jimmy would be huge for them as they really only have Ben Simmons and JJ Redick for guards, and they need an edge above the Celtics who are about to be the beasts of the east.

So, I’m kind of upset that Jimmy didn’t come to me to talk about this, like he should have. Instead, Jimmy told the world that he wants to go to the Brooklyn Nets, the Los Angeles Clippers, or the New York Knicks.

Now, I will admit here (because I don’t like acting like I know what I am talking about ALL the time) that I don’t know all of the fine details of trades, extensions, max caps, blah blah blah. I do know that if I were Jimmy, I sure as heck wouldn’t be mysteriously releasing small bits of information and forcing the NBA media to put the spotlight on him in anticipation of a trade. Seriously, I saw a headline that had the word “quandry” in it. Put away your dictionaries, I’ll define it for you: a state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation. Additionally, Stephen Jackson, Andrew Wiggins, and other notable sports names freaked out on social media.

Let me get to explaining my title: Jimmy, if you’re going to start a commotion, go to a good team, gosh darn it!!! If you’re going to leave a team to get a title, go to a team who didn’t finish 28-54 (Nets), or 35-47 (Lakers- no I don’t care about the addition of LeBron), or 29-53 (Knicks).

By the way, if you read this article and thought it even was more sassy than usual, you’re right.
