Rookie Report: Offense Week 10 – Rashaad Penny

Because most rookies don’t get enough credit, we’ll be highlighting some top performances by the NFL’s next generation.

Rashaad Penny, RB, Seattle Seahawks

Rashaad Penny might not have had the hype that some of his fellow rookie running backs have, not yet anyway. But he’s on his way. After being used sparingly early in the season, Penny had a coming out game in week ten against the Rams vaunted defense. The Seahawks eventually fell to the NFC West-leading Rams, but the ball control offense was more successful than many would have anticipated, finishing out the game with well over 200 yards on the ground. The Seahawks lead the league this year with over 150 yards on the ground per game, led by Chris Carson as well as their elusive quarterback, Russell Wilson. With Carson sitting out of the week ten matchup with a hip injury, Penny stepped up admirably. He carried the ball twelve times for 108 yards, over nine yards per carry, plus his first NFL touchdown. Rumors around Seattle are that Carson will be ready for this week’s showdown with the Packers on Thursday night. Let’s hope that won’t put Penny in the back seat again. He’s averaging a little more than Carson per carry, with far fewer opportunities, and his elusive style could work well as part of a tandem.
