The Talk Around AD

Shoutout to @bagnell_dustin for this topic-inspired by early morning text conversation and his tweet:

He’s right, and this is the talk of the whole NBA right now. In case you haven’t heard, Boston is a big contender in the Anthony Davis “sweepstakes”. It seems like AD would prefer to go to the Lakers, where he could play with LeBron James, but Celtics would have a lot to offer. They would probably be trading pretty much everyone besides Kyrie Irving for the power forward/center Pelican star. Trade pieces would probably include some kind of combination of Brown, Tatum, Rozier, and some draft picks sprinkled in.

According to the NBA’s Rose Rule, the Celtics can’t officially trade for AD until after July 1st. NECN explained this morning this rule:

“The Celtics are unable to trade for Davis until after July 1 since the league does not allow a team to have two players on its roster on a rookie max extension. After July 1, Kyrie Irving will be eligible to opt out of current contract and become a free agent, allowing the Celtics, in theory, to sign him to a max contract and then trade for Davis.”

What Danny Ainge said this Thursday morning to 98.5 The Sports Hub:

“They listened to what I had to say, and I think they get it..They understand it. Part of it, I feel obligated to help educate these guys on the world that we live in and basketball-the business side of basketball, the media side, and all the reports that come out-and try to prevent them from being distracted.”

“[The Celtics] want to keep Kyrie.”

Jayson Tatum said on Wednesday:

“My job is to control what I can control”

“I mean, I can’t control what happens, so just gotta go out there and focus on today. Just play the game. See what happens.”

What do you think? Is AD a key piece in the puzzle? Do we need to pull the trigger on trading the young guys?

I personally enjoy the team we currently have. I really like AD, but I’m not sure how well he’ll fit in here.
