2019 Draft Needs Tracker: Cleveland Browns

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

AFC North: Cleveland Browns

1st Round: 17
2nd Round: 49
3rd Round: 81, 96

OK, so it’s not the insane haul they had last year, with four picks in the first thirty-six selections, but the Browns still have a good chance to upgrade their roster in a few places. Last year was the Browns best draft of all time, and it isn’t close. Getting Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb or Denzel Ward would be considered a win, but to get all three, plus Austin Corbett is a serious haul. As the Browns look to improve on their best season in recent memory, it’s my feeling that they’ll be looking for big, hole stuffing run stoppers and versatile tacklers to shore up that run defense. The Browns allowed the fifth-most rushing YPG last season, and they won’t go much further without addressing that need. I also wouldn’t mind seeing them pair a speedy corner with Denzel Ward to make them less vulnerable to deep plays. On offense, I’d hope they find a few pass catchers to give Baker Mayfield options, perhaps at tight end, but with the thirtieth-ranked defense and the thirteenth-ranked offense at the end of last season, I think it’s clear where Cleveland should be expending their draft capital.
