2019 Draft NeedsTracker – Denver Broncos

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

AFC West – Denver Broncos

1st Round: 10
2nd Round: 41
3rd Round: 72

I’m not exactly sure where to begin with the mismanagement of the Broncos, but I’ll start here. Joe Flacco isn’t the answer to anything. Assume for a second that they do get Drew Lock with that tenth overall pick (it’s not in any way guaranteed that he is still on the board). You now have an overpaid interception machine sucking up massive amounts of cap space, and I’m not so sure Flacco is the guy you want to bring a young quarterback up underneath if that’s the plan. A few years ago, this was the most fearsome defense in the league, but it somehow just lost its mojo without losing too many important players. Last season Denver was in the bottom half defensively, no matter how you want to look at the numbers. Passing, rushing, whatever. They were a top ten unit in sacks, but they had Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, so…this might be the only team in the league that ISN’T salivating over this year’s crop of edge rushers. They’ll likely take Lock if he’s there at ten, beyond that, they should be looking into their offensive line. Joe Flacco is definitively not mobile. After that their needs are more systemic than specific, but I expect to see them taking a good, hard look at cornerbacks and tight ends.
