2019 Draft Needs Tracker – Arizona Cardinals

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

NFC West – Arizona Cardinals

1st Round: 1
2nd Round: 33
3rd Round: 65

Some folks are absolutely positive that Kyler Murray will end up going to Arizona with that number one overall pick. I’m not so sure. It might happen, but anyone who was watching knows that Josh Rosen wasn’t the heart of the problem in Arizona last season. This team was devoid of pass protection, and not even walking Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald could make up for a very sub-standard set of options at the skill positions. With that many needs on offense and a defense that allowed 26.6 PPG last season, they need more than just one exciting player. I believe strongly that their best option is to trade back on draft night, they can get a king’s ransom for the first-overall pick and probably turn it into some big bodies for the O-line and at least one downfield threat. On defense the Cardinals simply couldn’t stop the run, allowing a league-worst 154.9 YPG, so shoring up the defensive line has got to be a priority. I’m not talking about an aggressive edge rusher here. I’m talking about a big, lane-clogging defensive lineman or lightning fast sideline to sideline middle linebacker. It’s going to be a long rebuild, and I’m not so sure that wasting last year’s first round pick is the way to get started.
