2019 Draft Needs Tracker – San Francisco 49ers

With the draft looming a few short weeks away, teams are busy figuring out who can make their teams better. Here’s my take on what your team needs to do in the draft to take the next step.

NFC West – San Francisco 49ers

1st Round: 2
2nd Round: 36
3rd Round: 67

Is there a team in the league that was more disappointing last season? Hopes were sky-high in San Francisco after Jimmy Garoppolo’s arrival from New England, but a slow start and a season-ending injury to their new quarterback left them near the bottom of the barrel. The Niners need a true number one wide receiver to pair with their exceptionally talented tight end George Kittle, who was stifled somewhat by being the Niners clear number one target and drawing way more attention from opposing defense than he probably should have. I’m not sure that there’s a wideout that makes sense to draft at number two overall, so I’m guessing that they’ll try to find that speedy, long threat early in the second round. The strength of this year’s draft is clearly on defense, and that’s where San Francisco will go. They’ll have their pick of the marquis pass rushers, and Nick Bosa would be a great addition in a Niners defense that ranked in the bottom ten in sacks last season. I’m not sure if a few complementary pieces are enough to get San Francisco into the mix with the playoff-bound Rams and always dangerous Seahawks, but with the second pick in each round, San Francisco will have a chance to greatly improve the roster in any number of places.
