Open Training Camp Practice Essentials

It’s here! The start of the most wonderful time of the year! No, not the holidays, I’m talking about football season! Ok, so it’s only training camp (which got underway this week) but…it’s close…so close!

I could go on and on about how excited I am, however, that’s not the purpose of this post. What I really want to talk about are the key essentials you’ll need if you’re one of the lucky ones who have the opportunity to attend an open training camp practice, or if you’re like a friend of mine, practices. As in multiple practices.

If you’re not aware, some (most?) teams hold open training camp practices which means fans are allowed in to watch. New England has done this for years and for a long time, I would go to at least one practice every year with my friends. That other friend of mine, though, the one I quickly referenced above? She is known to go…well, a lot. Let’s just say she has gone to every single open practice for multiple years in a row. How she manages to get there so often, I have no idea, but she is a pro at this and the year that I went with her she gave me specific instructions on what to bring with me. “Nothing more, nothing less,” she said. I, of course, took more with me because…well, because. However, the key things I used (minus one item) were the exact things my friend told me to bring. I’ve shared this list before so if you’ve been around a while, this will be familiar. But for those who have not, here are the six essentials to have with you:

Sunscreen: Do not leave home without sunscreen. Even if it’s cloudy, do not forget the sunscreen

  1. Sunglasses: I mean, yeah. Squinting is no good…
  2. Lip Gloss/Chaptstick: Hot. Humid. Need to keep moisturized
  3. Skin Cleansing Wipes: So this came in handy after waiting in line for hours and then watching practice on an extremely humid day. Being able to take my makeup off helped keep things calm during the hour-plus long drive home.
  4. Memorabilia: I believe that most teams have players sign autographs after practice. No guarantee, but if you have something you want autograph, this is probably the best place to have that with you!
  5. Sharpie: See #5.

There you go. Pretty simple.
