Younger players are often secret weapons for teams on offense and defense. Unlikely to draw attention from opposing coordinators, these guys make a big difference for their teams before they become full-blown stars at the NFL level. Here are the two NFL rookies who we feel made waves in the NFL week 6 games.

NFL Week 7 Offense: A.J. Brown, WR, Tennessee Titans

It might seem hard to grade out a rookie receiver who’s starting QB just got benched. And that’s true. The rookie Titan hasn’t exactly piled up stats, he’s ranked fourth among rookie receivers with 337 receiving yards (16.9 YPC) but he does pop out on tape for one simple reason. He’s gaining separation at exactly the right times.

Brown’s cutting and pace changes are proving effective against NFL-level competition, and he’s popping free more and more frequently. After six games with Marcus Mariota, Brown was averaging just two catches per game. In his first game with Ryan Tannehill under center, the rookie hauled in six passes for 64 yards in the Titans win over the Chargers. With Tannehill clearly seeing the rookie’s skill at uncovering better than his predecessor, expect to see more balls headed his way as the Titans look to turn their season around.

NFL Week 7 Defense: Roderic Teamer, S, L.A. Chargers

From one side of this game to the other…One of the best rookie defensive performances this weekend came from the Chargers rookie safety, Roderic Teamer. Teamer has worked his way into a starting role from week three on, in the absence of Chargers standout safety Derwin James. Teamer had his best game of the year against Tennessee, racking up six tackles, one tackle for loss and his first interception of the season. Even with Derwin James set to get back on the field in the coming weeks, it would seem that Teamer has proved his value in a young Chargers secondary.
