Diana Taurasi, Future Owner?

On a (really &$(#@ unhinged and amazing) Instagram Live with Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi, 38, expressed interest in entering an ownership role in women’s sports following her retirement.

“Everyone is like, do you want to be a coach? Do you want to be a GM?,” said Taurasi, per ESPN’s Mechelle Voepel. “No,” she added, “I want to f-ing own it.”

Taurasi has had a long, successful WNBA career, and has been a leading voice in the conversation around women’s sports. Transitioning to an ownership role makes sense for DT, who criticized the lack of investment in women’s sports by wealthy women, asking, “Where are the rich women?…Sometimes you invest in things that don’t make a lot of money yet, but you want to make them better.”

The Phoenix Mercury are currently owned by Phoenix Suns owner and real estate developer Robert Sarver—I wonder if Taurasi would be interested in trying to purchase some share in the team she’s spent her career playing for?
