Black Lives Matter

We’ve been silent far too long on the Black Lives Matter movement. We’ve been listening and watching and educating ourselves, make no mistake. But it’s time that we make one thing very clear for our readers. Sports are From Venus fully believes that black lives matter.

If you’re a long time reader, you know that Sports Are From Venus has always been behind the BLM movement. Saying that we fully believe in Colin Kapernick’s message and fully believe the NFL blackballed him as a result of his silence and peaceful protest, though, is not enough. Sports are From Venus wants to make it very clear that BLACK LIVES MATTER. George Floyd and the many many many many many many other lives that were taken at the hands of racism matter.

We’re not going to try to educate you on why this is such an issue. It’s not our place, to make it perfectly clear. It’s not our place because we have a lot to learn as well. It’s not enough to say that you have black friends and that you respect the hell out of them. It’s not enough to say that you would never not offer an opportunity to a person of color because of their skin tone. It’s not enough. We need to truly understand the history and the reality of what it’s like for black men and women to live in a world that has senselessly murdered one black man after another (after another after another after another and on and on and on) so that we can do what needs to be done to stop the senseless pain and suffering.

Tom and I recorded a podcast episode the other day and we discussed the BLM movement at the start of that episode. In that episode, Tom provided us with a few podcasts that all of us should be listening to that will help educate us on the true extent of just how awful racism is in this country. Those podcasts are (no affiliation, just highly recommended):
