Washington Mystics take down the Atlanta Dream by a score of 98-91

The Washington Mystics took down the Atlanta Dream by a score of 98-91 in a battle of two struggling teams at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. With the win, the Mystics improve to 4-7 overall. The loss pushes the Dream to 2-10 overall. 

The Dream fought hard to come back from being down as much as 13 in the second half but just fell short, missing key baskets down the stretch coupled with made free throws by the Mystics, led them to this 7 point loss. 

The Mystics were led by Stella Johnson’s 25 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Dream’s Betnijah Laney dropped 35 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Courtney Williams put up 30 points for the Mystics in this game. The dream were plagued by turnovers, committing 14 total. 

The difference in this game came at the free-throw line as Washington struggled shooting the ball, anywhere except from the charity stripe where they shot 80.0%. 

One of the players that struggled the most for the Dream tonight was Glory Johnson who only played 8 minutes and had 2 points. In regards to the poor performance, coach Nicki Collen said, “Glory really struggled, she didn’t play with a lot of energy.” 

In regards to her 30 point performance, Courtney Williams kept it simple saying, “I got my mojo going now.” 

The Washington Mystics are back in action looking to inch closer to .500, on Friday August 21st when they face off against the Dallas Wings. The Atlanta Dream are also back on August 21st, when they face the Los Angeles Sparks.
