Notre Dame Football announced today, September 22nd, that practice would be canceled because of four positive COVID tests among the football team. That number increased throughout today to 7 positive tests. As a result, Notre Dame’s scheduled game for this Saturday against Wake Forest has been postponed. The school announced that 13 players are in isolation and 10 are in quarantine.
This is the second time that Notre Dame had to pause practice, after, five tests last month.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons athletic director John Currie said that, “We are already discussing options for rescheduling with the ACC and our future opponents, including the possibility of playing on the October 3rd weekend.” The October 3rd weekend is a bye week for both programs.
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said that he knew challenges would come with playing in a COVID season, “We knew COVID would present challenges throughout the season, and we’ll always put student-athlete health and safety at the forefront of our decision making.”
As of right now, Notre Dame is scheduled to be back in action on October 10th against Florida State. While Wake Forest is scheduled to be back in action on October 9th against Campbell.
