“Thank You Black Women!”: WNBA Players React to the Election

The WNBA players dedicated the 2020 season to social justice. Among their many actions, the players determined that they could make an immediate impact by registering people to vote. WNBA players joined together with NBA players to launch Hoopers Vote and the WNBPA took action inspired by the 19th Amendment to make sure young Americans were registered.

So it’s no surprise that these athletes and activists had strong reactions to the results of the presidential election, including Kamala Harris making history as the first female, Black, and South Asian Vice President-elect.

After the results were announced, players took to social media to celebrate…

Some allowed themselves to be a little petty

And many reminded us of the importance of this moment…

I personally could not be more proud to be a WNBA fan after this season. And I hope these athletes never just stick to sports.
