The New York Liberty are in the midst of their first season playing home games at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and are settling in quite nicely.
On June 28th, the Liberty organization unveiled a completed design-build renovation of their 6,000 square foot locker room and lounge for their world-class athletes. The completely redesigned space includes new lockers, a players’ lounge, new operating systems, and a sleek shower and bathroom layout with extended space for dressing and makeup mirrors.
The state-of-the-art compound was conceptualized and completed by a team of women from Shawmut Design and Construction and Generator Studios with women’s comfort and preferences in mind.
“Partnering with Generator Studios in design-build collaboration, we were proud to assemble a female-led design and construction team for the New York Liberty,” said David Margolius, executive vice president of Shawmut Design and Construction’s New York Metro region. “Our commitment to operationalizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our business allowed us the capability to do this—not to mention the sheer talent of these team members. This is truly a project built by women, for women—and in an industry that’s less than 10% female, we’re especially proud of this. On top of that, we delivered on our commitment to 100% WMBE (Women and Minority-Owned Business Enterprises) external subcontractors.”
Humanscale, an ergonomics furnishing leader provided carefully selected products for the new locker room and staff area to create a space that is both functional and well-designed.
After the Liberty played at the Westchester County Center for two seasons, the move to Barclays Center is a MASSIVE upgrade. Barclays Center is an “NBA-quality” facility located in downtown Brooklyn that is actually accessible to the people of the tri-state area. It is much easier for fans to travel to Brooklyn as opposed to Westchester.
The move to Barclays Center promised an upgrade to the quality of the facilities that the Liberty used in Westchester. With the newly renovated locker room and lounge in Barclays Center, players will now have the professional quality facilities that they deserve.
The new locker room has enough space so that some players have open lockers next to them, so they can really spread out. The sleek all black lockers with the Liberty’s logo on the ceiling is a nice look.
We need a Jaz Jones hyped reaction video to the hot tubs.
The map of Brooklyn with “Legacy” on it is a great graphic that should be on a t-shirt. The lounge looks like a cozy place for the Liberty to hang out and relax.
